Let’s face it, when it comes to movies, guys and gals have different tastes. While the ladies will line up for a good rom-com, it’s car chases and explosions that get the guys’ juices flowing.

Since Sunday is Father’s Day, this week in entertainment, NRFGP is featuring a few films for Dad—with a little “eye candy” the ladies will enjoy, too! With some available for purchase and some new in theaters, one is sure to be the perfect gift for the Dad in your life.

Just out on DVD, Safe House, starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, is a spy thriller reminiscent of the Bourne series, complete with the requisite car chases, shoot-outs and dirty CIA agents. Washington plays Tobin Frost, a former good guy gone rogue, who turns himself into CIA custody only to keep from being gunned down on the street. All too soon, Reynolds’ Matt Weston finds himself in charge and on the run with Frost as a seemingly infinite number of bad guys give chase and Weston no longer knows who the good guys even are. It’s an adrenaline rush for the fellas and really, Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds? ‘Nuf said—there’s plenty here for the ladies, too. (I’ve already seen it twice; watching the two stars never gets old.)

Of course, the best of the spy thrillers is the aforementioned Bourne movie series. The three films include The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum and star Matt Damon as Jason Bourne (if that’s his real name) as a CIA operative suffering from memory loss who is being set up by the very people who trained him. Each movie is gripping as Bourne’s story unfolds and the secrets of Treadstone, the now-defunct CIA operation where Bourne was assigned, are revealed. Action, suspense and Matt Damon. Check out this three DVD series available on Amazon.  Oh, and did I mention Matt Damon? This is a gift for you, too, ladies.

If you’d rather treat Dad to a movie in theaters now, the latest installment of the Men in Black franchise is now playing. Combining really big, really noisy high tech weapons with a plot that once again has the heroes racing to save the world, MIB3 offers its successful blend of sci-fi action and comedy, reuniting Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and introducing Josh Brolin playing a spot-on younger version of Jones’ Agent K. Smith is charming, Jones is deadpan and Brolin makes the film as K’s younger self. Again, there’s something for everyone. And if you missed MIB and MIB2, they’re available on Amazon, too. Check out the MIB3 trailer, below.

This Father’s Day, treat the Dad in your life to the gift of movies. With these films, you’ll be only too happy to share the popcorn! Happy Father’s Day!
